FELT BICYCLES RENEWS AGREEMENT WITH THE ADT EVENT CENTER
Irvine, CA - January 26, 2007

Felt Bicycles has extended its agreement with AEG, owners and operators of The Home Depot Center to be the Official Track Bicycle of the ADT Event Center, North America’s  only indoor velodrome. Under the new two-year agreement, Felt will continue to have the distinction of being officially identified with the 250m climate-controlled indoor track that is now widely considered the best in the U.S. and one of the finest in the world.

Located within The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, California, the ADT Event Center has played host to a number of internationally acclaimed events including the 2005 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and several UCI Track Cycling World Cups since opening in 2004. Just last weekend, the facility hosted the Los Angeles edition of the 2007 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics.

As a part of the continuing agreement, Felt will receive velodrome signage, a permanent lobby display, and exclusive use of its bicycles by the ADT Event Center for all classes and clinics conducted by track director and former Olympian, Roger Young, and his staff. In addition to an ongoing schedule of training and racing, future classes and clinics will expand to include triathlon and multi-sport education and use. To accommodate all of the activity at the ADT Event Center, Felt will be providing a complete stable of its newest TK2 track bikes and S-series TT bikes.

“Felt has been a fantastic partner and we look forward to having their continued support of the ADT Event Center at The Home Depot Center" said Shawn Hunter, President of AEG Sports. “Felt products are simply superb and, as an organization, they are continually willing to work with us no matter what the project or task. Our organizations have had an excellent working relationship and we highly value their passion and expertise in this sport and industry.”

Felt Bicycles’ company president, Bill Duehring went on to add, “Being the official track bike of the ADT Event Center and getting to work closely with AEG is something Felt is excited by every day. Our organizations have a true working partnership. It is well known that AEG is doing some amazing things in the sport of cycling, and in the case of the ADT Event Center, they have single-handedly injected a lot of energy and enthusiasm back into the Southern California, U.S. and worldwide track racing scene.  We are honored to share in that."

FELT ATHLETES TAKE TOP HONORS FROM USAT
Colorado Springs, CO - January 19, 2007

USA Triathlon is pleased to announce the recipients of its annual elite athlete awards for 2006 as selected by the USAT Athlete Advisory Council.

Highlighting the list are Triathletes of the Year (ITU) Andy Potts & Laura Bennett. Also honored were Multisport Non-ITU Athletes of the Year: Seth Wealing & Becky Lavelle and Rookies of the Year (1st pro race was in 2006): Michael Orton & Kelly Couch. “These athletes really stood out among American athletes, and in a few cases the world, in 2006,” said USAT Sport Performance Director Scott Schnitzspahn.

Potts had his best season yet on the World Cup circuit, finishing ranked No. 3 and earning three podium finishes, including a win at the final event of the season. Bennett finished fourth in the World for the women and earned four top-three placements at World Cup events on the year.

More comments from Schnitzspahn on the award recipients:

Andy Potts (Colorado Springs, Colo.): Andy was America’s most consistent performer this year and earned the only World Cup win for the USA in the final event of the year.

Laura Bennett (N. Palm Beach, Fla.): Laura showed why she is the front runner for the 2008 Olympic team with multiple podiums at World Cups and an 8th place at Worlds.

Seth Wealing (Boulder, Colo.): Seth showed his versatility in 2006 by being highly ranked among Americans on the ITU points and dominating the XTERRA circuit as well, winning the XTERRA US Championship. He is a special athlete.

Becky Lavelle (Los Gatos, Calif.): Becky was head and shoulders above the other elite women in every non-ITU event she entered. She’s the best pure triathlete in the USA. She won at St. Anthony’s, Escape from Alcatraz, Vineman Half, and Treasure Island, and had top three finishes at Lifetime Fitness and Chicago.

Michael Orton (Reston, Va.): Michael mixed it up with the best this season and was a factor in every race he entered. We look forward to seeing how Mike does now that he is out of the U23 ranks.

Kelly Couch (San Mateo, Calif.): Kelly was amazing in only her second year in the sport. To place 6th and 2nd American at the 70.3 World Championships shows she has huge potential.

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and winter triathlon in the United States. USAT sanctions 2,000 races and connects with more than 80,000 members each year, making it the largest multisport organization in the world.

FELT LAUNCHES NEW 29" HARDTAIL LINE
Irvine, CA - January 19, 2007

The Felt Nine is finally here. For trail lovers nationwide, Felt complete its 2007 off road line-up with a great offering of 29” hardtail mountain bikes, available soon at your local Felt dealer.

While big wheel 29’ers may seem new to most riders, using larger wheels on rough roads and trails was the standard for the much of the early twentieth century. Until use of the automobile became more widespread, roads were little more than dirt tracks, and larger wheels allowed for faster and smoother rolling more comfortable ride.

The 26” mountain bike wheel most riders are familiar today was derived from balloon tire bikes of the post war years in the USA. This was a time where bikes were used more for fun, rather than for longer distance transportation. While these fat tires were the key to developing early mountain bikes, their smaller diameter didn’t give them the same speed over rough ground as earlier larger diameter wheels and tires.

As mountain bike pioneers started to experiment with larger size wheels they soon re-discovered their benefits. Today more companies are following this trend back towards bigger wheels, however many keep their existing 26” geometry. Without accounting for the increase in fork trail and increase in bottom bracket height, steering dramatically slows and the riders center of gravity is up to 1 ½” higher than a similar 26” bike, creating an unstable feeling.

When we set out to design our new Nine series we knew we needed to build frames that maximized all the benefits of 29” wheels while tailoring the geometry to give a more responsive ride than has typically been associated with many other 29”ers.

We started by adjusting the frame angles to increase responsiveness and offset the higher gyroscopic inertia that is inherent to larger 29er wheels. We then combined this responsiveness with a Lower bottom bracket height, therefore providing the rider with the perfect balance of straight line speed and cornering performance.

The result is a bike that embodies the “Felt” feel of long, low and fast. A bike that is fast enough to handle technical trails, yet stable enough to inspire confidence when you open it up on the fire road.

NEW BRAD KEARNS COLUMN ENHANCES FELT LIFESTYLE
Irvine, CA - January 9, 2007

Felt is excited to announce a regular addition to the Lifestyle area of the website in Brad Kearns.

Brad Kearns is a former national champion and #3 world-ranked professional triathlete with thirty victories during his nine-year career from 1986-1994. He has been a noted speaker, author and coach in the endurance sports world for nearly two decades. The rare combination of elite athlete, writer and coach gives Brad a powerful platform from which to educate and inspire others to achieve peak performance and optimum health.

Brad's 2005 book, 'Breakthrough Triathlon Training', promotes a healthy, balanced approach to a sport - a refreshing departure from the robotic and obsessive approach taken by many athletes. His new book 'How Lance Does It', details the attitude and behavior qualities of Tour de France legend Lance Armstrong and how you can apply them to your own peak performance goals.

Brad will offer unique and provocative commentary that goes beyond the tired "nuts and bolts" of training methods and frequently challenges mainstream beliefs and attitudes. Topics will include how to adopt an intuitive training approach that blends comfortably into a balanced lifestyle and helps you achieve your natural potential, profound insights about the peak performance attributes of top professionals, dispelling prevailing and harmful myths about "what it takes" to excel in endurance sports and the urgency of riding a Felt bicycle at all times. Kearns explains, "I'm proud of my athletic accomplishments, but saddened at the same time to consider how much better I might have done riding a Felt bike. I feel that writing for this web site is a way to give back to today's athletes who are much more fortunate to have opportunities that I did not."

Kearns' opening article, 'Michellie and Pete win the Ironman', offers a poignant look at the inner workings of one of the most successful partnerships in triathlon history. Enjoy!

TEAM SLIPSTREAM RIDES FELT FOR 2007
Irvine, CA - December 24, 2006

Felt Bicycles is delighted to announce a partnership with Jonathan Vaughters' tremendously successful racing program, Team Slipstream Powered by Chipotle (formerly TIAA-CREF), for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

Established originally as a development model and recognized predominantly as the USA's youngest pro cycling team, Team Slipstream has produced 17 national champions since its inception in 2004. By selecting and retaining young, talented athletes and matching them with seasoned riders - like Mike Friedman, Brad Huff, Danny Pate and Mike Creed – the program provides leadership and mentoring qualities to further enhance the strength of the squad.

The team will compete with a Pro Continental license, which allows them to race in bigger and more prestigious events such as Tour of California and the Tour de Georgia, as well as entry into some of the larger European events including Tour de l'Avenir, Tour of Denmark and Tour of Normandy. Perhaps the most exciting and significant of European race dates are confirmation of entry into ProTour events Paris- Roubaix and the Criterium International. Danny Pate and Pat McCarty (USA rider and latest addition to Team Slipstream) who both rode in the 2006 Elite World Road Championships, are shooting for similar Worlds team placement in 2007.

Jonathan Vaughters said of the new partnership "Felt bikes are fast, durable, light, and make sense from an engineering standpoint. The guys love them, they test fast in the wind tunnel and they don't break. It's refreshing, and we're thrilled to work with such a superior partner."

Felt has not only opted to sponsor Team Slipstream’s road team, but also the track team and the junior development program.

The track team, which is being primed for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, features three riders who are in the USA elite talent pool and will be foremost in the selection process for all upcoming major international events. Both Creed and Huff earned talent pool designation by winning both the National Track Calendar and the National Championships - Creed in the points race and Huff in the Madison. Friedman qualified automatically as the National Track Calendar winner and National Champion (with Huff) in the Madison.

Team Slipstream's junior development program is considered the most successful in the country and boasts a plethora of national champions. Developmental riders will continue to work at the younger level in cycling and towards a spot on the professional Slipstream squad.

Jim Felt, founder of Felt Bicycles said, “This is a team we have watched since its beginning and we have seen it flourish into one of the best programs in the nation. It fits perfectly with Felt’s mission – to build the best bikes in the world for our riders, regardless of whether they are already pro caliber or whether they are simply trying to beat their personal best. We could not have more exciting partnership.”

Team Slipstream powered by Chipotle will train on the Felt CA1 and race the Felt F1 and Z1 frames. In time trials, they will race the Felt DA and B2; and on the track they will race the Felt TK2 and custom pursuit frames.

IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPION MICHELLIE JONES BACK ON FELT
Irvine, CA - December 15, 2006

After a brief hiatus, 2006 Ironman World Champion Michellie Jones is back in the saddle with Felt Bicycles.

Jones, who celebrates 20 years in the sport next year, aligned herself with Felt for a considerable part of her triathlon career, winning a silver medal on the original Felt DA in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Arguably the most successful triathlete in the world, her major wins are almost impossible to keep up with. Olympic and Goodwill Games medals, two ITU World Championships, myriad World Cup and non-drafting Olympic distance races, eight Escape from Alcatraz victories and three Ironman wins culminating in the World Championships in Kona last month.

In a similarly successful year that earned Felt the prestige of “best in show” (Interbike) from a number of key media journalists and triathlon aficionados, it was the new DA technology that caught both Jones’ and husband and manager Pete Coulson’s attention. “Winning Ironman really made me stand back and take a good look at what was out there in terms of new aerodynamic technology,” Jones said from her home in Carlsbad, CA. “I’m at the pinnacle of my career in terms of where I need to be physically and mentally. Going back to Felt in the knowledge that I’m riding the most advanced bike out there, coupled with the fact that it is a group of people who are dedicated to the sport gives me the added confidence to continue on this path and take my performance to a whole new level.”

Jones will race on the new Felt DA and train on the B2. Developed over two years using NACA aerofoil profiles, CFD flow modeling and wind tunnel experimentation, the DA frame system delivers unsurpassed aerodynamic advantage with incredible drive-train and steering stiffness. The DA also features the revolutionary Bayonet Steering System which moves the steerer outside of the frame, improving steering stiffness 60% over a regular fork while significantly reducing the aerodynamic drag on the bike.

Jim Felt, co-owner, said “This is not only a tremendous coup for the brand in the year that we brought the new DA triathlon technology to market, it’s a huge honor for all of us at Felt Bicycles to welcome MJ back into the Felt family. We are certainly looking forward to helping her stay on top of her game.”

Colavita-Sutter Home changes management
Linden, NJ - March 23, 2006
By Mark Zalewski, North American Editor, Cyclingnews.

John Profaci, general manager of com the Colavita-Sutter Home men's cycling team, confirmed with Cyclingnews.com today that he will be making changes to the team management for next year. Tom Schuler and his Team Sports management company will be taking over the management of the team -- similar to his role on the counterpart women's Colavita-Cooking Light team when it merged with the Quark team after 2005. "Some things just didn't happen this year," Profaci said. "The idea is to bring the two teams together -- we just couldn't get them to mesh this year."

Profaci also said that Frank McCormack will stay on as director sportif of the men's team. "Frankie is so important to the team and Tom has a lot of respect for him," he said. The move will create a team structure modeled after Schuler's successful Saturn program that dominated domestic racing for twelve years, which Frank McCormack, as well as his brother Mark, were both a part.

Profaci said Schuler is in the beginning stages of talking to prospective riders for next year, using the criterium nationals as a starting point.
